Dog Rescue Delaware - PawrPose

When the cold weather pauses our voyaging escapades, these dogs can have indoor fun without switching off their entertainment modes! Indoor activities and games not only help exercise a dog’s brain, but also help strengthen the bond between you and your dog. With proper tasks and activities, every indoor space can be converted into a pleasant and captivating playground. Here are seven engaging and unique ideas to keep your dog happy and entertained during the winter season.

A Thrilling Scavenger Hunt Surprise

On a thrilling scavenger hunt day, the weather seriously turned cozy. As a first step, you may use treat or favorite toys at easy spots and as the game progresses, increase the difficulty levels to more advanced spots around the house. An additional dose of challenge can be added by creating a scent trail using peanut butter or some small piece of kibble leading to the hidden spots.

Why is it Great?

  • Stimulates sniffing and natural hunting instincts
  • Provides a good, mentally enriching dog challenge
  • Provides open-air exercise in a unique, low-stress manner

All DIY Hide and Seek Using Blankets

Use ‘Blur’ as a dog’s nose or use it as a reciever, and go on unparalleled real hide and seek treasure adventures with blankets. If keeping a treat or toy under layers isn’t highly challenging, give the users the ability to find multiple goodies stuffed within multiple, to use as a form of towels, for added levels of challenge.

Why It’s Great

  • Improves sniffing and problem-solving abilities
  • Makes timid dogs feel confident and helps them ‘uncover’ hidden treasures.
  • Fun and simple to set up with items already available in the house.

Indoor Fetch with a Change

If your dog loves playing fetch, you can now play it indoors! Modify it by using a plush or soft toy that won’t ruin your walls or furniture. Add some chairs and cushions for the dog to navigate around. Place the toy behind vehicles or around the corners so that the dog has to work extra hard to grab it.

Why It’s Great:

  • Allows safe indoor energy expulsion.
  • Enhanced focus tracking the toy.
  • Best for restless energetic dogs who need to expend some energy physically.

“Find The Squeaky” Game

Squeaky toys are fun, and if your dog loves them as well, then trying hiding the toy in a room and squeaking it a few times to pique their interest. Once they are interested, let them sniff for the toy and treat them with a reward when they manage to locate it.

Reasons it’s Amazing:

  • Invokes interest and concentration through sounds
  • Taps into their hunting and scenting abilities
  • Helps them interact and bond with you while playing a lazy game

“Tap the Paw” Trick Training

Learn your dog a captivating trick to “tap” the palm of your hand or any object with their paw. This works well to add another skill to their ‘to do’ list without taking too much of their attention. Initially, show them a treat placed in your closed palm which they will paw at, and reward them instantly. With time and some effort, they will comply to verbal instruction hit the target with their paw!

Why It’s Great:

  • Increases acquisition of new skills and mental activity
  • Increases the ability to focus and command attention
  • Can be a fun, engaging, indoor type of training.

Sock Hide-and-Seek Puzzle

Old socks can be transformed into engaging puzzles by putting some food rewards in them. Roll or tie the sock with a treat tucked inside securely and challenge your dog to unroll it. Start with easy knots, and as they get the hang of it, make it harder.

Why It’s Great:

  • Keeps your pup entertained, while providing problem-solving activities which stimulate the mind.
  • Fun at little to no cost due to the use of common household materials.
  • Safe chewing and reward chewing to help encourage work.

Dance Party Pawty

Rightfully so, we are in a time of a dance celebration! Go ahead and turn on the music with the beloved Treats Dog, and encourage them to dance with you by slightly helping to raise their paws and running in a circle. Reward small dances with treats about hopping, turning, or even pawing up.

Why It’s Great:

  • Encourages silliness in a joyous way to lift spirits and break the monotony throughout the day.
  • Staying Indoors With Your Pup During Winter

The dog can have fun while staying indoors when bound to the house and my activities encourage a strong bond between the dog and the trainer. Fun indoor activities leads to a sharp change in their moods while keeping their spirits high. Tail wags all day long makes sure the dog remain 🙂
